Interstellar Overdrive: NASA’s 1977 Voyager was launched into deep space carrying a Golden Record featuring sounds from Earth. Amongst spoken greetings in 55 languages, natural images and sounds of the planet, folk music, and classical masters, were songs by Louis Armstrong, Blind Willie Johnson, and Chuck Berry. There is yet no word on whether blues and rock made an impact on the interstellar music scene, but I’d bet any intelligent being would have trouble finding a turntable that plays at 16-2/3 rpm.
